The marketing says one scoop replaces a produce aisle. The evidence says something much more modest. Here is where a greens powder actually earns its price.

Greens powders are the most marketed supplement category in the health space right now, and the gap between the ads and the evidence is wide. We spent a month with the leading brands to figure out what a scoop is really worth.

The honest math

A serving of most greens powders contains about as much actual vegetable matter as a few florets of broccoli, at several times the price. The vitamins are real, but you can get the same panel from a basic multivitamin for a fraction of the cost.

Where they earn their keep

Travel, deadline weeks, and anyone whose honest vegetable intake is near zero. Something is better than nothing, and the habit of a morning glass can anchor better choices around it.

Our recommendation

If you want one, pick a brand that discloses individual ingredient doses and carries third party testing. That shortlist is small, and our favorite is linked above.
